Funeral services for Elvis LaPlante, age 29 of Santee, Nebraska, will be 2:00 P.M. Thursday, August 2, 2012, at the Oyate Oyanke Community Center in Santee. Roger Trudell and Kaylon Strickland will officiate, with burial in the Congregational Cemetery at Santee. Military Honors will be conducted by the Santee Honor Guard and the Nebraska National Guard Honor Team.

Visitation will begin at 6:00 P.M. Tuesday night at the Oyate Oyanke Community Center in Santee, and continue until service time on Thursday, with nightly Wake Services at 8:00 P.M.

Brockhaus Funeral Home of Niobrara is in charge of arrangements.

Elvis died Monday, July 30, 2012, as the result of an automobile accident near Niobrara, Nebraska.

Elvis Aron LaPlante (Ticokaya Najin Hoksidan), son of Charles and Clarissa (Phillips) LaPlante, was born January 31, 1983, at Lincoln, Nebraska. Elvis grew up in Santee, Nebraska, where he had many friends and relatives. His best friends were Seymour Brandt and Chance Strickland, among many others. Elvis attended Santee Community School and graduated with the Class of 2001. He was an active Sundancer at the age of eight years old, at Crazy Peak Sundance at Santee, Nebraska. Elvis continued to support the Sundance and Dancers throughout his life.

Elvis served as a private in the Army National Guard, and was currently employed at Ohiya Casino. He loved to go bowling, playing basketball, spending time with his family and friends, and watching ESPN Sports. Elvis liked to read, and his favorite sports teams were the New York Knicks, New York Yankees, Buffalo Bills, and Nebraska Cornhuskers. He also was a singer and drum member with the Maza Kute singers of Santee. Elvis was loved by all his nieces and nephews, family, and friends, and will be dearly missed by all that were blessed to have him in their lives.

Elvis is survived by his parents, Charles and Clarissa LaPlante of Santee, Nebraska; brother, Waylon LaPlante, wife Ruth, and their family of Santee, Nebraska; sisters, Kathi Washington of Santee, Nebraska, Deana James of Santee, Nebraska, and Lizzie Swalley and husband Chris of Santee, Nebraska; as well as numerous extended family and many friends.

He was received into the Spirit World by his sister, Lisa Thomas Phillips; grandmother, Annie Phillips; and aunt, Charolette Sutherland.
